Evidence Based Medicine: Searching

Introduction to fundamental concepts of evidence based medicine and practice.

Getting Started With Searching

Understanding how to conduct thorough and efficient searches for information is critical to being able to provide well informed, timely, and effective evidence-based care.

  • Keywords - The very basics of searching begins with understanding how to breakdown your topic into searchable keywords and terms.
  • Filters & Limits - Many information resources allow you to filter and narrow your searches based on commonly used criteria.  Understanding these tools can greatly improve the efficiency of your searches.
  • MeSH - Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), are a robust set of filters and labels.  These can be used to both greatly increase the efficiency of your searches and produce more relevant search results.
